Jesus said to her , "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies."
John 11:25

     History of Healing Winds

Members of St James Episcopal Church, Black Mountain, NC interested in the ministry of healing prayer, organized the first of the parish’s healing conferences in 1978 with The Rev John Park, Warden of OSL, as speaker. During the next 17 years several healing missions were held in Black Mountain, NC.

In 1993 The Rev John Rice came to St James and continued the healing ministry. In 1995, The Rev Mark Pearson led the first annual “Healing Winds Conference”. In 2001 Rev John Rice left St James Church as its Rector and became the Director of Centurion House. This was an ecumenical healing ministry in Asheville, NC that he and a group of people dedicated to the healing ministry founded. Centurion House took responsibility for the continuation of the Healing Winds Conference each October. When Centurion House closed in 2006 the Order of St Luke Chapters of Hayesville, NC (The River of Healing) and of Asheville, NC (Mountain Chapter) began to sponsor the conference.

In 2002 the Healing Winds Conference moved to Lake Logan Episcopal Retreat Center in Canton, NC and in 2012 is moving to Lake Junaluska NC Conference Center to accommodate  growth and enable participation of all those who wish to attend.  It is a wonderful location for the retreat, as Western North Carolina is beautiful with crisp fall weather and foliage at conference time in September. There are walking trails and inspirational mountain and lake views.

The weekend is filled with worship, fellowship, prayer and quiet time.  The Conference begins on Friday at 12 noon with lunch and ends on Sunday around 11am with a worship service of Holy Communion, where everyone joins in the singing of the Concelebration.

The 2 OSL Chapters will continue to sponsor Healing Winds with donations from participants and from the fee that is charged for the weekend retreat.

We encourage you to come to a Healing Winds Conference and experience the love of Jesus Christ.
